Bab Alsunut–باب السنط

Inspired by ‘’Bab Alsunut’’ poem and the wonderful gatherings of Sudanese women to cook for special occasions such as weddings ،using traditional utensils and other equipment to create a Great feast enjoyed by all.

The painting imitates a village showing women and houses from different parts of Sudan cooking for a special occasion.

Starting from the right there are two women from the Bega tribe, Eastern Sudan one is cooking ‘’Mulah’’ a type of stew which is served with ‘’Kisra’’ the baked thin type of bread. While the woman facing her, grills meat in a ‘’Saj’’ a wide flat cooking wok like. They sit close to their tent, with Gabana "the brewed coffee at the traditional Bega", near the Mubkhar, a burner made from clay, with light charcoal and Bakhour,to replace the cooking smell with the beautiful burned sandalwood.   Followed by the center, two ladies from Darfour state in Western Sudan.One holding a tray of cooked breakfast as her contributions to the family hosting the wedding party, and with her other hand she holds a basket with bread. Nearby ‘’Gidra’’ which is the pot used for cooking Fava beans and the ‘’Kumsha’’ large spoon handed on the ‘’Gidra’’ handle. The woman beside her from the same area of Sudan there is a woman grounding wheat in a large ‘’Fundug’’, between them is a ‘’Mandola’’ basket and its basket cover holding inside a wooden container, Gadah, to keep food.

The last woman at the left is from the North part of Sudan,here she  is baking ‘’Kisra’’ flat bread on a ‘’Saj’’ from the  steel white bucket, beside her lays the dhow. Baking and from the other side a basket for the cooked ‘’Kisra’’, also below the cooking shed there’s a ‘’Tabag’’ for cover food, ‘’Sharmout’’ meat  hanging to dry ,a ‘’Mashleeb’’ hanging holding the milk to made yogurt and a table with the brewed coffee at the ‘’Gabana’’ pot and the ‘’Shargrag’’ steel coffee serving pot.Behind he is  ‘’Zear’’ a clay water container with it is steel tin cover, the ‘’Garaa’’ half cut dried pumpkin used as drinking cup, while a small bowl used   to catch the dripping water.
