Al-Mashata fe Kasala Cushion Cover – غطاء وسادة المشاطة في كسلا

The painting shows the Fatima who works for breading women’s hair as a profession which is a very exhausting job requiring 3 hours min. to breads the hair for a woman and 5 hours if it’s a bride or newly married woman, yet the profession is undermined.

Fatima is from Kasala at Eastern Sudan, the painting shows her sitting on a Banbar breading the hair for a newly married woman living in a simple house near Seidi Al-Hassan tomb and mosque “ضريح و جامع سيدي الحسن” -showing at the background.

Near them is the shade “التكل” were the cooking and many of woman beautifying activities take place. Below the shade brows coffee in the traditional clay pot on a clay stove- both typically used in Eastern Sudan. At the side a table with the coffee, cups and sugar steel bowel in a silver steel tray in addition to Bakhoor in a clay pot typically used in Eastern Sudan.
